Moods Boards / Editorial Visual / Mood and Tone

A mood board is a type of collage that may consist of images, text, and samples of objects in a composition of the choice of the mood board creator. Creatives use mood boards to develop their design concepts and to communicate to other members of the design team, and also their clients.

Mood boards are often used by creatives to enable a person to illustrate visually the direction of style, which they are pursuing. However, mood boards can also be used to visually explain a certain type of style writing, or an imaginary setting for a story line. In short, mood boards are not limited to visual subjects, but they serve as a visual tool to quickly inform others of the overall 'feel' or the 'flow', that a designer is trying to accomplish. Creating mood boards in a digital form may be easier and quicker, but physical objects often tend to have a higher impact on people. as the more complete palette of sensations physical mood boards have to offer, in contrast with the black and white or even colour-prints of a digital mood board. Also, Mood boards can be painted too.

We had to design a mood board that helps build a profile of our characters for my story. I should produce a physical and digital version. 

I will be selective and critical with the images I place on my mood board. I should also only use images that enforce and build on my ideas.

For instance, what clothes are the characters wearing?

What are there physical attributes?

Where do they live?

What items do they have around them?

What do they eat? Etc...

I should be prepared to answer questions about my story and the characters in my next session. I should also build a physical profile: I should bring in images from the net and magazines to create a mood board that will aid the development of my story and characters. This should also include both physical attributes and the surroundings.
