Essay:
"text...." (Eco, 1989)
// Discussion of Umberto Eco: The Open Works
- Open and closed,
- relationship between the viewer and the artist
- makes references to art form
- no work is complete
- Allows the viewer to create their own interpretation of the work
/ What are my own thoughts and views about the open work?
- I like how it makes references to other art forms, and medias i.e. music.
I also like how to one person the work looks complete, but to someone else it could look incomplete.
Also it gives people a chance to voice their own opinions. Text was difficult to understand, as it was very intellectual.
/ In what we do I think that Open Works are poetic?
- Allows people their own emotions and feelings towards the piece.
/ How would you contextualise the Open Work to my own practice?
- Lets others voice their opinions and see wether they see that it is open or closed (finished or unfinished). Know that other people have their own thoughts and views on the work, causes changed because of cultural shift. In 5 years time could be different to now, in the present. Other influences.
